What time is it in Belgium right now?

Brussels runs on Central European Summer Time (CEST), which is UTC+2, until the last Sunday of October. From late October through late March the whole country shifts to Central European Time (CET), which is UTC+1. One IANA zone covers every corner of Belgium: Europe/Brussels.

The switch happens twice a year: - Spring forward: Last Sunday of March at 02:00 local time. Clocks jump to 03:00. In 2027 that is 28 March. - Fall back: Last Sunday of October at 03:00 local time. Clocks drop to 02:00. In 2027 that is 31 October.

Belgium's single time zone: Europe/Brussels

Belgium has exactly one IANA time zone: Europe/Brussels. No regional variation. The zone stretches from the coast to the Ardennes.

France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg share the same clock. A meeting in Paris is at the same time as a meeting in Brussels, all year round.

How Belgium time relates to neighbouring countries

Country Time difference from Belgium
UK 1 hour behind (always)
France Same time (always)
Germany Same time (always)
Netherlands Same time (always)
Luxembourg Same time (always)

The UK causes the most confusion. During British Summer Time (BST), the UK is UTC+1 and Belgium is UTC+2: still one hour apart. In winter, the UK is UTC+0 and Belgium is UTC+1. The gap never closes.

Quick reference: Belgium vs major world cities

These figures are based on 15 July 2026 (summer, CEST):

City Time difference from Brussels
Paris Same time
London 1 hour behind
New York 6 hours behind
Los Angeles 9 hours behind
Chicago 7 hours behind
São Paulo 5 hours behind
Dubai 2 hours ahead
Mumbai 3.5 hours ahead
Singapore 6 hours ahead
Tokyo 7 hours ahead
Sydney 8 hours ahead
Johannesburg Same time

In winter (CET), the differences shift for cities east of Belgium. Dubai becomes 3 hours ahead, Mumbai 4.5 hours ahead, Singapore 7 hours ahead, Tokyo 8 hours ahead, and Sydney 10 hours ahead. Johannesburg stays the same.

What happens to my schedule when Belgium changes its clocks?

The clock change hits at 02:00 CET (spring) and 03:00 CEST (autumn). That means: - On the spring change day, the hour between 02:00 and 03:00 does not exist. - On the autumn change day, the hour between 02:00 and 03:00 happens twice.

Why is Belgium always one hour ahead of the UK?

Anyone scheduling calls between Belgium and London should treat the difference as fixed. It is always one hour. Summer does not remove the gap.

Travellers arriving from the UK set their watches forward one hour on arrival, regardless of season. Travellers going the other way set them back.

Belgium uses Central European Time (UTC+1 in winter) for political and economic alignment with France, Germany, and the Netherlands. The UK uses Greenwich Mean Time (UTC+0 in winter).
