Why is there no time difference between Brussels and Paris?

Set one watch for both cities. Brussels and Paris read the same hour, minute and second every day of the year. No offset, no summer divergence, no winter gap. At 14:00 in Brussels it is 14:00 in Paris.

Both cities run on CET (UTC+1) in winter and CEST (UTC+2) in summer. They follow EU Directive 2000/84/EC and change clocks on identical dates. In 2026, move clocks forward on Sunday 29 March at 02:00 local, and back on Sunday 25 October at 03:00 local. That schedule applies to both.

France and Belgium share a land border and a long history of economic and political alignment. Both adopted CET in the early 20th century, partly to coordinate railway schedules and trade. Today, both remain in the same IANA time zone region (Europe/Brussels for Belgium, Europe/Paris for France) and follow the same EU DST rules.

There is no national opt-out, no special derogation, and no historical anomaly that separates them. The two countries have been in the same time zone continuously since Belgium abandoned its own Brussels meridian time in the late 19th century. The result: zero time difference, every day of the year.

Book a Eurostar or Thalys and ignore the clock

Eurostar and Thalys high-speed trains connect Brussels-Midi/Zuid and Paris-Nord in roughly 1 hour 22 minutes. Do not adjust your watch. Book the 08:00 departure from Brussels and you arrive in Paris at 09:22 local time. No conversion.

A 10:00 meeting in Paris means leaving Brussels on the 08:30 train. A 17:00 return from Paris has you back in Brussels before 19:00. No mental arithmetic, no risk of missed connections due to a time zone error.

What is the best time to call between Brussels and Paris?

Plan calls, meetings, or travel between Brussels and Paris and ignore time zones entirely. The rule is simple: if it is one time in Brussels, it is the same time in Paris.

Business hours: same start and end times. Lunch: same hour. Public holidays: many overlap, but check each country's calendar for differences. Belgium has National Day on 21 July; France has Bastille Day on 14 July. TV schedules, live events, and train departures: all directly comparable.

The only practical difference is that France uses IANA zone Europe/Paris, while Belgium uses Europe/Brussels. Both zones define the same offset and DST rules. In the IANA database, they are geographically separate entries but functionally identical.
